make, believe
Maeghan Banks is an intermedia artist whose practice includes research, writing, archiving, video, installation and social media. In both art and life, she is trying to reconcile an internet state of mind with a mindful state of being.

Her current research and work focus on how mediation implicates attention and, specifically, how objectively banal (but somehow aesthetically satisfying) media are reified and shared on social media platforms.

In make, believe, she explores how meaning is constructed and perceived through objects and gestures. Both function as texts through which meaning can be inferred though it is never made explicit. Objects and gestures hold semiotic potential, but they also have a material presence. In the installation, the viewer’s attention might waver between the two videos, between ways of making meaning, between the perception of signs and materials. The mind moves in the spaces in between.
