My paintings address an issue I have long been grappling with: what does it mean for me to be a ‘real adult’? I study the narratives I’ve constructed about my childhood and growth, and pair them up against basic narrative patterns that are present everywhere, such ‘The Hero’s Journey’. I draw on symbols and spaces that are a part of adulthood and childhood. Some are widely relatable, but some are inherently personal, such as the repetition of cats in my paintings. I strive to process my personal experiences, and present them as a part of a story that is still familiar to others.
